Sea Doo Utopia Detailing

On Friday, we detailed a Sea Doo Utopia at a motorsports dealership in Nassau County. This was a recent purchase that needed prep work before being released to the customer later that day. Our task was to clean it up and bring it back to show room condition.

We started with a rinse of the entire boat to remove the loose dirt. Next, we scrubbed the hull and swim deck of the boat. There were stains on the swim deck as people had climbed in an out to view the interior. Next, we got into the boat to scrub down all surfaces including seating compartments and floor compartments. We removed the carpets before scrubbing the floor to remove all stains first.

We dried the boat down (inside and out) and applied a high quality marine wax to the hull. After removing the wax the gel coated surface really shined. The surface was smooth, clean, and most important, looked new. We moved onto the interior of the boat where we repeated the waxing process.

To finish up the inside, we made sure that every compartment was dry and free of any indication of prior use. We polished the glass and chrome pieces, and treated the leather seats for UV protection. After scrubbing the carpets with a marine upholstery shampoo we removed the moisture with a 6.5 HP shop vac. The dry carpets were placed back on the inside and snapped into place.

The dealership was happy with the results as they were on a time schedule to deliver the boat a customer. We hope to continue working with this dealership when it comes to prep work. We were equally pleased with the results and happy we could deliver our services at a “moment’s notice”. Another quality job performed by Five Star Detailing.

Nissan Murano: Two Star – Supreme Wash + Wax

Last week we detailed a gray Nissan Murano in Woodbury, NY. This job called for a wash / wax treatment. As we initially looked over the car it was in good condition except for bird droppings on the driver’s side of the vehicle. We started this detailing job with a thorough rinsing including the wheel wells and undercarriage as a lot of dirt had accumulated.

The initial wash and scrub took a good portion of our time as the jams had been caked with dirt and needed special attention. The rest of the Murano washed nicely as the hood, side panels, and roof were clean and free of swirl marks. We dried the Murano down to prepare the vehicle for a coat of wax.

The wax application / removal really shined up the paint’s surface. Usually we clay bar the vehicle prior to waxing for the purpose of removing all surface contaminants. In this situation the owner was comfortable with just a coat of wax and the results were to his expectations.

We treated the tires, polished the glass, and moved onto the interior to vacuum. At the request of the owner, he opted to just have it vacuumed and not the plastic or vinyl surfaces treated. We graciously accepted the request and followed through with polishing the glass and cleaning the floor carpet mats. This Murano looked great as we finished the final touches on it. We hope to do more vehicles in this community in Woodbury.

2008 Lincoln Navigator – Complete SUV Detailing

This weekend we detailed a 2008 Lincoln Navigator in Massapequa Park, NY. This vehicle was in good condition on the outside; however the interior needed some help. We started by washing the vehicle down thoroughly to remove the dirt and prepare to clay bar. While washing the car we spent extra time on the chrome rims as brake dust had covered them entirely.

When the car was dry we took a clay bar to the white paint to remove any surface contaminants that had not been removed during washing. It took some time to clay bar as this vehicle is extra large, but we were able to remove all the dirt nestled between the cracks.

We washed the car once again to remove the clay residue and any dirt lingering on the surface of the clear coat. After drying we applied a high quality carnauba based wax to protect the Navigator’s precious clear coat and leave a deep and glossy shine. The wax removed well as we finished up the exterior. The vehicle was really shaping up!

The interior took more time than the exterior for us as there was a tremendous amount of surface area to be covered. One all surfaces had been treated and we finished vacuuming the results were very clear to be seen. We wrapped up the interior by polishing the glass and mirrors and doing some mild odor removal to neutralize the scent.

Overall, this vehicle came out great. It looks really sharp in the sunlight and the owner was pleased with the results. Keeping a vehicle of that size clean can be difficult, especially with a family and back seat passengers. Another job well-done by Five Star Detailing!

2004 5-Series BMW: Complete Detailing

Over the weekend we detailed a 2004 5-Series BMW in Massapequa Park, NY. This is one of my favorite cars when it comes to performance and styling! The car was in pretty good shape; however it was evident that it had been quite some time since the last time it was detailed. We started by rinsing the car down and beginning with a wash and scrub.

The car washed nicely and the only issue we had with the car was removing the caked up brake dust on the rims. We’ve run into this situation before with BMW’s regarding their wheels and break dust. After the car was dry we took a clay bar over all painted surfaces of the vehicle. After washing the car again, the paint looked very clean, yet unprotected.

We applied a coat of a carnauba based wax over the painted surfaces of the vehicle. Removal of this wax was a breeze as it left a brilliant shine and provided necessary protection from the elements. We wrapped up the outside of the car by polishing the windows and treating the tires. The outside looked really sharp before we tackled the interior.

The black interior really needed help as it was evident that the car had not been detailed recently. We began by vacuuming all surfaces including storage compartments. Next, we treated the leather seats to bring back the shine it once had. We wrapped up the interior by treating the dashboard and all vinyl and plastic surfaces, and polishing the windows.

The owner of the vehicle was happy with the detailing as his daughter is the primary driver of the vehicle. He said it looks “sharp” and he hopes it stays looking clean for a while. We hope to detail this car again next season as it was a fun car to work on and the paint quality is superb.

1992 Capri Bow Rider Detailing

This weekend we detailed a 1992 Capri bow rider in Massapequa Park, NY. This boat was recently acquired by a family who would like to become more familiar with boats. Additionally, their 16 year old son has passed his boat certification (congratulations!) test and will be operating this boat in the Great South Bay of Long Island, NY. Upon discovery, this boat was really dirty! However with detailing work put into it, it would be a great first boat to learn on.

We started with a complete wash and scrub of the hull and interior of the boat. As this boat was only 17 feet long we were able to tackle both areas simultaneously. The majority of dirt came off with scrubbing and the boat rinsed clean.

Next, all fiberglass areas were compounded. The compound bought new life to the blue coloring, which had been heavily oxidized. We finished up the exterior of the boat by applying a high quality marine wax to protect the boat from the elements and add extra shine.

The interior of this boat was also very dirty as the original carpets were worn from heavy traffic over the years. The carpets were first shampooed and scrubbed. Next we hosed the carpets down to remove dirt.

We continued by scrubbing the carpet using spot treatments and removing excess water with the shop vacuum. The condition of the carpets changed drastically. The owner of the boat was very pleased with the results. Though his son was not present to see the boat for himself, we hope that when he returns he will be pleased with the results and become excited about boating this summer and continue learning about proper boat care and maintenance.
