2003 Toyota 4Runner Detailing – Massapequa Park, NY

This 2003 Toyota 4Runner was the victim of a poor detailing job in the past as the owner had described to us. The vehicle was located in Massapequa Park and was heavily swirled. The swirls originated from a detailing job last spring. As I described to the owner, a full paint correction job on this vehicle could take many hours and would be significantly beyond the budget of an average detailing. We delivered a cost efficient solution to minimize the appearance of the swirls and also leave the car protected for the cold weather coming this winter.

We started by washing the car down to remove all dirt and surface contaminants. Next, we took a clay bar to all painted surfaces to level the paint and bring it back to a bare state. We washed the car again to rinse off the excess dirt that had been lifted by the clay. We dried the vehicle down with microfiber before moving on to applying a high quality sealant.

We opted to use a product called Jet Seal 109 on the black paint. We’ve found that this sealant provides the best protection and shine for black paint. It gives a high gloss “wet look” appearance after the product is removed. The most important feature of this product is that is greatly minimizes the appearance of swirl marks without having to go into a multi-step paint correction process. Many enthusiasts use this product for high end vehicles, but this product has properties that many make mid-market vehicles look amazing.

After removing the Jet Seal 109, we detailed the interior of the vehicle treating the dashboard area, leather seats, carpets, and windows. The owner was extremely pleased with our results and happy that we were able to deliver the solution while staying within a reasonable budget. We’ve earned the customers trust and will be back this spring to apply another coat of Jet Seal 109.

2007 Acura TL Type-S Detailing – Queens, NY

We detailed a 2007 Acura Type-S in Queens, NY. This car was just purchased from an individual that resides in Manhattan. The previous owner did not take care of well as they never washed it and it was not kept in a garage. Being that it is a 2007 vehicle, it was still in pretty good condition and needed a professional detailing job bring the shine back.

We started by applying our citrus wash concentrate into our foam gun to wash the loose dirt off the vehicle. The surface contaminants washed off the car nicely before we took a clay bar to the paints surface. During the stage all the black streaks and marks were removed from the vehicle. Instead of using a compound that may have abrasive properties, clay is great for spot treatments on marks that would not be removed with a carnauba based cleaner wax.

We applied a coat of wax with our high speed orbital polisher with a foam pad that wasn’t that dense to navigate around tight corners. After the wax was removed the exterior had a radiant shine that was visible to the owner and neighborhood friends.

The interior of the car was thoroughly cleaned as the previous owner was a smoker. We were able to remove the smoke scent and put life back into the leather seats that appeared dry and hard to the touch. The leather softened up and was left with a shine which the owner appreciated. Last, we polished the windows and deodorized the carpet and the headliner. The owner was very happy with the results and put it immediately back in the garage for safe keeping. We hope to service more clients in Queens and continue detailing Acura’s and other luxury vehicles.

1998 Aquasport Detailing – Smithtown, NY

Detailing this 1998 Aquasport boat in Smithtown was a memorable experience for us. As we first looked at that boat we noticed many deep scratches on the hull’s gel coat. There were many stains on the boat that were present at the time the boat was purchased just weeks ago. The owner started removing the brown marks (which came off completely!) however this procedure was done with a metal pad that’s typically used for cleaning pots and pans in the kitchen. Additionally, the gel coat on this boat was weak causing the scratches to be visible as there was no wax on the boat.

We started with a thorough wash and scrub of the entire boat. There were numerous black streaks that had been set in over the years. We used acetone to remove the marks which also cleaned the fiberglass and brightened it up as well. After washing the boat again to remove any chemicals still present on the fiberglass, we dried the boat down to prepare it for machine waxing.

We applied a coat of Gary’s Royal Satin Marine Wax to protect the fiberglass. As this boat is white in color, our choice to use a carnauba based “cleaner wax” made it appear “whiter” than it ever has before. Also, we were able to hide many of the surface scratches that were on the hull. After removing the wax from the entire boat we finished up by cleaning the glass, protecting and polishing the isinglass, and vacuuming the cabin area. The owner of the boat was very pleased with our results and has graciously invited us back next spring to treat the boat before it gets dropped in the water. Another quality boat detailing job performed by Five Star Detailing in 2009!

2004 Nissan 350z – “Paint Correction” – Queens, NY

A few weeks ago we detailed a 2004 350z in Queens, NY that required some paint correction work. There were swirl marks and light scratches on the paint that the owner wanted removed permanently. This car was very special as it had been purchased from winnings in Atlantic City from a lucky slot machine. We were equally excited to work on the vehicle to bring it back to showroom condition.

We started with washing the vehicle down with a citrus wash to remove any loose dirt and dust on the black paint. Next we used a clay bar to remove surface contaminants on the paint. After rinsing the car down again, we got the Porter Cable 7424 XP ready for compounding. We compounded the vehicle making sure to spend extra time on areas of deep swirls and scratches. It always takes a little more time for compound to break down and do its job so this step should never be rushed. To achieve this effect, we used an orange Hex Logic foam pad on our buffing wheel.

Next, we applied a polish to the vehicle to bring out the shine of the black paint to enter the 2nd phase of correcting the paint. Again, extra time was spent breaking the polish down with a blue Hex Logic foam pad on a high speed. Swirls and scratches were buffed out during this stage.

To finish this vehicle, we applied a coat of Jet 109 sealant and removed with a clean micro fiber towel. This product offers the best shine for dark colored vehicles and unmatched protection. Five Star Detailing offers this product upon request as it has become very popular among our enthusiast clients. The owner was very pleased with our results and referred us to his brother who owns a Jaguar S-Type R. We look forward to servicing these clients in the spring of 2010 as they recognize the value of high quality detailing work for their vehicles.

2007 Land Rover LR3 Detailing – Exterior Package

We recently detailed the exterior on a 2007 Land Rover LR3 in Manhasset, NY. The lease on this vehicle was up and this LR3 was ready to be turned in. It was in good condition; however it needed a quality detailing job before turning it back to the dealership. We performed a wash, clay bar treatment, and wax to this truck to bring back the shine.

The rubber, plastic, and vinyl trimmings were also treated to accentuate the bold features on the vehicle. It was evident that the trim had not been treated in a while, so application of an “extreme shine” dressing changed the Land Rover’s appearance dramatically.
