2002 Mercedes Benz ML320 Detailing
Last weekend we detailed a 2002 Mercedes Benz ML320 SUV in South Huntington, NY. We spoke to the owner earlier that week and briefly spoke about the condition it was in. As he mentioned during our phone conversation, it was in poor shape and had not been run in over two years. He also mentioned it was parked under a tree and had been scratched by fallen branches. Before we began working on ML320 we inspected the vehicle to confirm the owners concerns.
There was a lot of dirt that settled in cracks and crevices so we spent a fair amount of time during washing phase to remove the grime. After the first washing, we began clay barring the vehicle down. We molded the clay to fit inside many of the cracks to pick up the dirt around the edges. In order to ensure that area is clean, the clay needed to be folded over many times. As the clay hit every surface of the vehicle we were confident that all the dirt had been removed. To ensure this, we washed the vehicle down a second time to rinse off the dirt and clay residue. After drying, the vehicle was 100% clean, free of dirt and surface contaminants, and ready for wax.
The clay was able to remove many of the surface scratches and imperfections on the clear coat. We next applied a thick carnauba based wax to protect the vehicle. The results were great as the Mercedes was left with a brilliant shine after removing the wax.
We completed the exterior by treating the tires, protecting all vinyl and plastic trim, polishing the chrome and exterior glass, and cleaning the door jams. The interior needed help too as there was a lot of loose dirt underneath the seats. We treated the dash, (all plastic and vinyl) and brought the shine back. The interior surfaces were very dry and really shined up after being treated. The results of the leather seats were similar as it had been years since they were treated.
We were pleased with the results of this detailing and the owner was too. We really took our time with it as there was caked up dirt around 90% of all pieces of trim. The clay bar we used really helped us achieve the results we were going for. We hope to detail this vehicle again in the future.
