2001 Grady White (26 ft.)

Yesterday, we detailed a 2001 Grady White (26 ft.) at a boat yard in Hampton Bays, Long Island. The sky was overcast so we began work early, in pursuit of beating the rain. The owner of the boat requested we do a full exterior job only and lightly go over the inside.

We started with washing the entire boat down with a marine wash and scrubbing the hull. Next we used deck cleaner on all gripped surfaces. We sprayed down the fiberglass and started the next step of cleaning the hull. The hull cleaner we have is powerful! We put it in a spray bottle to ensure an even coat over the surface of the hull. We let it soak for a minute or two before taking a dry “applicator” pad to the surface. When using hull cleaner, always make sure you are using gloves as the chemicals could burn skin. We rinsed the hull and dried it down.

For treatment on the hull the owner requested our “3-Step Process” which is compounding, polishing, and waxing. Many owners have their own preferences as to how they want their boat detailed based on their previous experience or what they’ve read or been told. For example, some owner request no wax, and two coats of polish to “make the boat faster”. It really comes down to preference as we’re happy to accommodate.

After compounding it was smooth sailing for us. The polish and wax both removed easily and shined and protected the hull surface. The canvas and vinyl gave us the most difficulty for this job as the clear vinyl was really dirty from salt water and left in the sun to dry. After working it with our vinyl and canvas clearer we were able to bring new life back into it and the customer was happy.

There were a few dings on the hull, but overall this 2001 Grady White was in pretty good condition for a summer fishing boat. This boat was prepped prior to being dropped in the water this week. We look forward to performing a mid-season detail for the client later in the season.
